The 5 main modalities included in Manual Osteopathy are:

Osteo- articulation- (structural alignment)
Following a thorough structural and functional assessment. Alignments or corrections to the spine, sacrum, coccyx, pelvis, and all the bones in the body are done using Muscle Energy Techniques ( MET) or Specific adjusting techniques (SAT’s)

Visceral Manipulation
The main focus of Visceral Manipulation is to restore the organs of the body back to their original motricity, motility and mobility with gentle hands on techniques that facilitate in arterial supply to the organ as well as sympathetic and parasympathetic motor supply to the specific organ being treated.

Advanced Myofascial remodelling
Fascia forms a vast continuous tension along network throughout the human body that covers and connects every single organ, every muscle and every nerve. Fasciae adhesions and loss of viscoelasticity reduce local blood circulation, prolonged ischemia can cause muscle damage. Myofascial remodeling helps to correct and restore fasciae adhesions and improve circulation.

Osteopathic cranial sacral therapy
Cranial sacral therapy is a gentle hands on approach to treat the meninges, the bones and sutures of the cranium. The cranial sacral system is intimately integrated into all the other systems within the body. It is a preventative treatment to bolster the body’s resistance to disease. It is an effective treatment for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain including but not limited to migraine headaches with and without auras, chronic neck and back pain, vestibular rehabilitation ( vertigo and tinnitus), TMJ pain. Rheumatoid arthritis, emotional disorders, autonomic dysfunction and auditory problems and past addictions.

Manual Lymphatic drainage
The lymph system is a secondary drainage network which supports the venous system by removing substances from the interstitium that are to large for the venous system to transport. Manual Lymphatic Drainage can assist in increasing the body’s production of lymphocytes, improve the immune system, and assisting the body at becoming more efficient at waste removal. Manual Osteopathic Therapist will prescribe rehabilitative exercises and stretches.

Manual Osteopathic therapy is effective in treating conditions such as:

  • Low back and neck pain (muscle strain, disc issues, scoliosis, arthritis and other related issues)

  • Shoulder problems (rotator cuff tendinitis, frozen shoulder and other related issues)

  • Elbow pain (tennis and golfers elbow)

LEANNE REARDON, MOT, MT

LeAnne is a Manual Osteopathic Therapist who graduated with honours from the Manual Osteopathic College of Canada, In Edmonton Alberta, in 2020. She moved from St. John’s to Alberta in 2015 to pursue her education. LeAnne has always been very passionate about holistic health and wellness and has always had a tremendous compassion towards others; it brings her great pleasure to be able help others achieve whole body wellness and attain optimal, pain free quality of life.

She understands that every client coming into the office is unique, each and every body tells a different story. Years of experience in massage therapy has taught her that each individual body is like a puzzle. The body shows symptoms, however, the source of the problems might be far from where the symptoms are present. This is possible as all systems in our body are interconnected and interdependent through our fascial network. This complexity led her to take the training for Manual Osteopathy, which assesses and treats the body as whole, three dimensional structure.

Her therapeutic interest lies in TMJ dysfunction, the neck and its connection with your pelvis, upregulated nervous system (such as migraines), headaches, and myofascial pain.  Furthermore, the ‘gut-brain’ (our second brain) relationship and its influence on the musculoskeletal system. She emphasizes on organ-specific fascial mobilization (Visceral Manipulation) not only to increase mobility and motility of organs, but also to decrease the symptoms in muscles and joints. LeAnne’s treatment goal with each client is to find the root cause of pain and injury and work to restore things back to optimal function.

LeAnne is extremely excited to begin her new adventure at Winterholme, and the opportunity to work with like minded healthcare professionals.  She is also a massage therapist waiting to be registered in NL in order to start treating as a Registered Massage Therapist as well (expected in late 2022).
